Tips for Printing Your Free Valentine’s Day Printables

Whenever I post a new printable, I usually get at least a couple of emails about how to print them. I thought I would answer some of the most common questions here to help you out.  If you have any other ones, just let me know!

HOW DO I DOWNLOAD THE PRINTABLES?

To download the printable of your choice, you just need to click on the link and then download the print to your computer. I have all of my printables in Google Drive so if you’re having troubles, try using Google Chrome for your browser.  It seems to do the trick!  If you’re not printing it right away, be sure to save it somewhere that you can find it again.  Having a specific folder specifically for printables works great to keep things organized and you can always find it in subsequent years if you want to print it again.

{NOTE: Google has updated the security settings on Google Chrome so you may occasionally get a notice that you do not have access to a printable. Just email me if this is the case and I will update it.}

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO PRINT OUT THE PRINTABLES?

Once you’ve downloaded the printable to your computer, you can choose to either print it at home or send it out to a local or online print shop {Stapes, Costco, London Drugs, Walgreens, etc.}. If you choose to print at home, you can use either a laser or an ink jet printer. The ink jet printers do seem to run through the ink faster than laser printers, so if you’ll be printing a lot, a laser printer may be your best option.

If you’re going to be printing something larger than an 8.5×11 {or just don’t want to use up your ink!} you will need to send it out to a printer.  I like to mark to NOT adjust the colors as I’ve had some funky colors come back when I don’t do this.  Make sure you’ve chosen the correct size for formatting so nothing gets cut off! {see below}

WHY ISN’T THE PRINTABLE PRINTING AT THE RIGHT SIZE?

I often have multiple formatting sizes available for each print {i.e. 4×6, 5×7, etc.}. This just indicates that the ratio of the height and width of the print is compatible with that printing size so nothing will be cut off when you go to print it.  Most home printers, however, will still print it out to fit a standard 8.5×11 piece of paper unless you change the settings on your printer. All printers are a bit different on this so I can’t speak to individual printers, but on our printer, we can change the photo size that we want printed and I just make sure to do this before printing if I’m wanting something other than a 8.5×11.  If you’re trying to print something smaller that just comes in a 8×10 or 8.5×11 size, you can still print it out smaller. You may just need to click on the “fit to page” setting so nothing gets cropped off.

HOW TO DISPLAY YOUR FREE PRINTABLES

Obviously, the easiest way to display your printable is to just print it out and put it in a photo frame, but there are also lots of other creative ways to display them:

Well, I hope that answers any questions that you may have.  If you still have more, just let me know and I’ll try my best to answer them. Enjoy the printables. I’m sure you’ll get hooked like me!

Valentine’s Day Magic Bars

Magic bars {also known as 7 layer bars} are always a big hit around here. This dressed up Valentine’s Day version is just as delicious, and oozing with all of that ooey-gooey goodness that magic bars are known for. Chocolate, salted caramel, nuts and coconut are all set in a caramelized layer on top of a chocolate chip cookie crust. They’re SO good!!

I also love how quick and easy this recipe is. There’s no mixing required and clean-up is minimal. Does it get any better than that?

Ingredients

  • 1 16.5 oz refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough roll
  • 1 cup salted caramel chocolate chips
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chocolate chips
  • 1 cup lightly salted nuts of your choice, coarsely chopped
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/4 cups Valentine's Day colored chocolate candies {Canadian Smarties or M&Ms, etc.}
  • 1 cup coconut

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350F. Line a 13x9 inch baking pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil, extending over the edges of the pan. If using foil, grease the foil especially on the sides.
  • Slice the cookie dough into 1/2 inch rounds and press lightly into the bottom of the pan. Be sure to cover the bottom completely. Bake for 5 minutes.
  • Top the cookie crust with the dry ingredients in the following order: salted caramel chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, nuts, sweetened condensed milk, half the coconut, Christmas candy pieces, the remaining coconut. Press down firmly with the back of a spoon.
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until the edges are slightly brown. Cool completely in the pan before cutting {or place in the fridge to cool faster}. Use the parchment or paper to lift out the bars and cut into squares. Store at room temperature for up to 5 days or refrigerate for up to 7-10 days.

What other ingredients could I swap out for our magic bars?

One of the fun things when you’re making magic bars is customizing your own toppings. If there’s something you don’t like or don’t have on hand, switch it out for something else! You also really don’t have to be exact with the topping amounts so add a little more of your favorites! Here are some ideas for you…

  • try different flavors of chocolate chips (butterscotch, white chocolate, mint, etc.}
  • add mini marshmallows
  • swap out the cookie base {a graham cracker cookie crust is the traditional base}
  • add toffee bits
  • change up the nuts
  • add Canadian Smarties (very different from American Smarties!}, M&M’s or other chocolate candies for some color
  • drizzle caramel over the top
  • colored sprinkles

Tips for the best magic bars.

  1. These magic bars are deliciously soft and gooey when they come out of the oven. I love them while they’re still warm, but they’ll be much easier to slice if you put them in the fridge for an hour or two to firm up prior to cutting.
  2. Line the pan with tin foil or parchment paper. This allows you to lift the bars away from the pan for easier cutting.
  3. Store your sliced magic bars in an airtight container between layers of parchment paper. Keep in the fridge for up to a week or out on the counter for about 5 days (in cooler temperatures). They can also be frozen for up to 3 months. NOTE: While I prefer to store ours in the fridge, the Smarties do tend to lose a little of their color in the fridge, so you may want to avoid the fridge/freezer for storage if you’re using Smarties for a topping.

Valentine’s Day Treats

I know Valentine’s Day sometimes gets skipped over, but I love having a reason to celebrate in the middle of dreary February. There’s nothing like a day of love and chocolate to bring up your spirits! Today, I’m joining a few of my blogging friends and sharing some fun Valentine’s Day treat ideas with you. You can find all of the recipes at the end of the post, so be sure to check them all out!

Valentine’s Day Oreo Truffles

I’ve been making Oreo balls for Christmas since the kids were little and they’re always a big hit. This rich and decadent treat is surprisingly easy to make with no baking required. They’re so good that they really shouldn’t be reserved just for Christmas, so I thought that it would be fun to do a Valentine’s Day version. To make them seem a little fancier, I thought “Oreo truffles” was a little more fitting than “Oreo balls”. lol!

Whatever you call them, you’ll love the creamy, chocolately, Oreo filling. It’s melt-in-your mouth goodness that can be enjoyed all year long!

Prep Time 40 minutes
Chill Time 15 minutes

Equipment

  • food processor
  • wax paper
  • microwave safe bowl
  • heart shaped silicone mold

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 package (250 g) cream cheese {softened to room temperature}
  • 1 package Oreo cookies
  • 2 1/4 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp shortening
  • Valentine's Day sprinkles

Instructions

  • Process the cookies in a food processor. {NOTE: If you don't have a food processor you can use a pastry blender or place the cookies in a Ziploc bag and crush with a rolling pin.}
  • Melt the semisweet chocolate chips in the microwave. It's very important to melt the chocolate slowly to avoid burning. Set microwave to medium power and heat the chocolate chips for 30 seconds in a microwave safe bowl, stir and heat again in 30 second intervals until melted. If it's getting very close to melting, 10-15 second intervals are best.}
  • Place the cream cheese pieces in the food processor with the melted chocolate. Process until smooth.
  • Line a baking sheet with waxed paper.  Form the cookie mixture into small balls and place on the sheet.  For the heart shapes, press the mixture into a silicone heart mold. Cover and freeze for approximately 15-20 minutes until firm.
  • Combine the milk chocolate chips and shortening in a microwave safe bowl and microwave as above until melted. {The shortening helps to make the chocolate smoother and more manageable for coating}.
  • Using a fork, dip the balls into the chocolate mixture and coat completely. Tap off the excess chocolate on the side of the bowl. Place the dipped balls on the wax paper tray using another fork or toothpick to help slide the treat onto the paper. Sprinkle with sprinkles and allow to harden.

How to Serve Your Oreo Truffles

The little details are always my favorite part of any project and I love coming up with creative ways to display or gift food items. Here are a few ideas to customize your Oreo truffles for Valentine’s Day {or other holidays!}…

Heart-Shaped Oreo Truffles

The easiest way to get heart-shaped truffles is to use a silicone mold. I picked mine up at Michaels for a few dollars but this one on Amazon is similar. If you don’t want to purchase a mold, you could just shape the hearts yourself or roll out the cookie mixture and use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter. Switch up the mold for different holidays or seasons.

Oreo Ball Pops

Adding a stick makes everything more fun! To make them easy to grab for parties, trim a styrofoam block to the size of your bowl and wrap with Saran wrap. Stick in your Oreo ball pops and then cover with candy or shredded colored paper for a fun display.

Package Them Up

These Oreo balls fit perfectly in little mini-cupcake liners and can then be added to jars, little chocolate boxes or other food-safe packaging. I found these cute jam jars at the dollar store and two Oreo truffles fit perfectly. Add a little gift tag or Valentine’s Day card for a sweet gift idea.

Add some sprinkles or chocolate drizzle.

The quickest and easiest way to add a seasonal touch is with sprinkles! There are lots of fun varieties to choose from so mix it up! Alternatively, you could add some chocolate drizzle in whatever chocolate color you would like.

Change up the chocolate coating.

Personally I’m partial to just using milk chocolate for the coating, but you could always use white chocolate, colored chocolate candy melts, or white chocolate with a few drops of food coloring to change things up. White and pink would be cute for Valentine’s Day, a little orange for Halloween, or customize it for any color scheme you’d like.

I hope you enjoy these delicious little Oreo truffles as much as we do! Let me know if you try them.

If you love gnomes, don’t just save them for Christmas decor! These Cute Valentine’s Day gnome printables can be used for your Valentine’s Day decor, cards, tags, and more!

Valentine’s Day Gnomes

The gnomes are back for Valentine’s Day! These fun little gnomies can be used to dress up small Valentine’s Day gifts, Valentine’s Day class treats, or used to make more custom Valentine’s Day cards. Or add them to your Valentine’s Day decor for sweet little vignettes.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect reminder to take a little time to show all of those special people in your life how much you love and appreciate them. A small gift or Valentine’s treat with a personalized note on the back of these cute gnome tags is a simple way to spread some love!

The inspiration for these gnome printables came from these  Valentine’s Day gnomes that I picked up from Michaels. I used them for our Valentine’s Day kitchen decor and needed a printable to go along with it. And, of course, it’s always fun coming up with cheesy Valentine’s Day gnome quotes!

For the tags, all you need to do is download, print, and trim them down with a paper cuttter. Punch a hole in the tag and use some baker’s twine or thin ribbon to attach it to your gift. And, of course, a sweet message written on the back is always a nice touch!

Valentine’s Day Gnome Printables

I couldn’t decide on one design or gnome quote, so I have a bunch of fun Valentine’s day gnomes printables for you to choose from. Just click on the links to see all of the different versions. Pick your favorites and use them for your Valentine’s Day home decor, Valentine’s Day cards, or simple tags for your Valentine’s Day treats!

If you’re looking to add a little love to your home this Valentine’s Day, try these inexpensive Valentine’s Day home decor ideas that anyone can do!

Valentine’s Day is often overlooked when it comes to home decor, but a few hearts and pops of red can really help to brighten up those dreary winter days. If you haven’t decorated for Valentine’s Day before, give it a try!

Valentine’s Day Home Decor Ideas

I always love changing up our decor for the different holidays and Valentine’s Day is no exception. This year, I kept our Valentine’s Day decor very simple and added some snowy winter touches in as well. It really doesn’t take much to add a little love to your home, so check out these easy ideas that anyone can do!

Change Out Everyday Items

One of the quickest ways to add some seasonal decor to your home is to change out a couple of your everyday items. Things like dish towels, oven mitts, mugs, or even your dish soap! Since you use them every day, they’ll bring a little bit of love every time you use them. Corralling items onto a tray or other contained area will keep them within reach without making your space look cluttered.

I always do a quick seasonal display at our kitchen sink. It’s fun to change up and really only takes a couple of minutes. It’s an easy way to brighten up your day every time you have to do the dishes!

Search the Dollar Store

You can often find some really cute holiday decor at the dollar store.  Probably half of our Valentine’s Day decorations are from there. I think these pretty white heart candle holders are my favorite and could really be used in your home decor outside of Valentine’s Day. I also got the heart mugs on our mug ladder, some cute Valentine’s Day kitchen towels, and all of the red heart melamine bowls and plates.

My other favorite place for inexpensive holiday decor is Home Sense. I also like searching local home decor and florist stores for more unique Valentine’s Day items. You never know when you’ll find something you love!

Create a Beverage Bar

Putting together a beverage bar is always one of my favorite things to do each season. It could be a coffee bar, hot chocolate bar, soda station, or any kind of beverage you like! You really don’t need a big space. A little side table or corner of your kitchen works perfectly. You can read more about how to set up a hot chocolate bar HERE or see more of this year’s Cupid’s Cafe Valentine’s Day hot chocolate bar HERE.

The drink bar in our kitchen is more for tea and steamed milk that I like to make. I keep the less pretty items {like the tea bags} in the cupboard directly above so everything needed is all in the same place and easily accessible.

Use Valentine’s Day Candy

Valentine’s Day candy is an easy and inexpensive way to add some Valentine’s Day color to your home. And, of course, as an added bonus, you get to eat it once Valentine’s Day is over and won’t have anything to store! Fill bowls or glass jars with red or pink candies for a pretty pop of color. Or add red foiled heart chocolates or Hershey’s kisses to any Valentine’s Day vignette.

Display Free Printables

There are so many beautiful free Valentine’s Day printables out there. You can definitely find something for every style and color scheme. Display them in photo frames or mount them onto colored or patterned cardstock for a more custom look.

Elephant Valentine’s Day Printable

Hugs and Kisses Valentine’s Day Printable

Add a Throw Pillow

Throw pillows are always a quick way to add some seasonal inspiration to your space. This Love pillow greets us right when we come in the door, but you can always add in a couple of Valentine’s Day pillows to your family room or bedroom. Look for pillows in red or pink, pillows with love quotes or words, or even a subtle heart. One or two mixed in with more neutral colors is all you need to make an impact!

Dress up a Wreath

All you need to turn your favorite wreath into some Valentine’s Day decor is a simple sign. This one was used for our Christmas decor but the wood heart transforms it for Valentine’s Day.

I hope you enjoyed all of the ideas and are inspired to add some Valentine’s Day love to your own home.

Wishing you all a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day Hot Chocolate Bar

You all know how much I love my hot chocolate bars and I always have fun coming up with new designs and ideas each season. I think this Valentine’s Day hot chocolate bar is one of my favorites with this cute Cupid’s Cafe Valentine’s Day printable.

A Valentine’s Day hot chocolate bar adds some pretty Valentine’s Day decor to your home while providing some tasty treats that you can share with your loved ones. It’s the perfect way to cozy up on these dreary February days!

What to Put in Your Valentine’s Day Hot Chocolate Bar

Putting together a hot chocolate bar is all in the little details! Shop your home for bowls, plates, glass jars, or anything else that you can dress up for Valentine’s Day. The dollar store is always a great place to find a few inexpensive items. I picked up the heart mugs and melamine heart bowls last year – all for less about $10.  HomeSense and Target are my other go to places for cute seasonal decor, so have a little fun shopping around!

I actually love shopping for all of the little Valentine’s Day treats, even more than the decor!

  • Heart shaped marshmallows.
  • Valentine’s Day cookies. You can always make your own but there are lots of cute store-bought options such as pink Oreo cookies, heart shaped sugar cookies, pink or red macarons, etc. {On a side note, I did have a lot more cookie options in our hot chocolate bar but our dog got to them first while I was setting things up!!}
  • Cinnamon hearts.
  • Valentine’s Day chocolates. Chocolate shaped hearts, Hershey’s kisses, Valentine’s Day M&Ms – there’s definitely no shortage of options at Valentine’s Day!
  • Valentine’s Day candy. You can find holiday candy in so many shapes and sizes. From hearts, to lips, to X’s and O’s – you’re sure to find something you love.
  • Red and pink sprinkles.

I also have some Valentine’s Day labels that you can grab for the hot chocolate, marshmallows, Hershey’s kisses, and cinnamon hearts. You can find them in this post if you’d like them too.

12 months of dates Valentine's Day printables and poem.

Give the gift of your time this Valentine’s Day with these 12 months of dates!  All of the printables are included making it the perfect Valentine’s Day gift idea for both partners and kids!

Valentine’s Day Gift Idea

That big day of love  is just around the corner and I have the perfect Valentine’s Day gift idea for your favorite loved ones! There’s no better gift to your special Valentine than time spent together. In order to show your love throughout the whole year, prepare 12 date nights for you and your loved one to do together – one for each month. This is perfect for both partners and kids!!

I pre-purchased all of the gift cards for dinners, movies, etc. and put them in an envelope with the date card for each month.  You could always just write your date on the card through and pay as you go to make it easier on the budget. It’s a great way to make sure that you get some dedicated time together and will be fun for both of you!

Non-Material Gift Ideas

The gift of experiences and time spent together is so much more meaningful than material presents. Think of favorite places that you used to go together in the past, or things that you have talked about doing that just never seem to happen.  You could also leave a few “mystery months” in there and plan something extra special too!   Here are a few ideas to get you started:

I hope you have fun with this one and take some extra time each month {and really every day!} to remind your loved ones how much they mean to you!

"I like you a 'hole' lot" Valentine's Day treat toppers for donut holes.

Make these cute donut hole Valentine’s Day treat bags for class treats, Valentine’s Day parties, or just a little something special for your favorite Valentines. Free printable treat bag toppers included.

Valentine’s Day Treat Toppers

These Valentine’s Day donut hole treats are perfect for class treats or Valentine’s Day parties. They’re quick and easy to put together and simple enough to make with the kiddos.

Materials

  • small, plastic treat bags {preferably ones that can be sealed at the top}
  • donut holes
  • paper trimmer
  • baker’s twine, ribbon, or string
  • small hole punch
  • paper trimmer
  • free treat bag topper

Instructions

  • Download and print out the treat toppers. Trim down with a paper cutter. {NOTE: If you’re going to be printing a lot, it’s probably a lot quicker and cheaper to get them printed at a local print shop. We went to Staples for ours.}
  • Add a couple of donut holes to the treat bags and seal the top. Slide the treat topper over the top of the bag and punch two small holes on either side of the topper (going through the plastic bag as well). Tie with ribbon or twine.

If you want to speed things up even more, you can just attach the treat topper with a stapler instead of using a hole punch and twine.

To get your treat toppers, just click on the link below, save to your photos and print. Each page will make two treat toppers. If you’re going to be printing a lot, I recommend getting them printed at a local print shop.

Penguin Valentine’s Day Treats

These adorable Valentine’s Day penguins are made with store-bought brownie bites for a quick and easy Valentine’s Day treat. They’d be perfect for Valentine’s Day parties, class treats, or just a fun Valentine’s Day project to do with the kiddos!

You can just make them on their own or add a paper straw and printable Valentine’s Day tag for a fun Valentine’s Day pop. Everything is better on stick, right? lol!

Ingredients

  • two bite brownies
  • cookie icing {this self-levels nicely and will harden}
  • chocolate wafers
  • candy eyes
  • Starburst orange candy or other orange gummy candy
  • paper straw
  • free Valentine’s Day printable tags
  • scissors/paper trimmer
  • double sided tape

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Using cookie icing, create a kidney shaped area on your two-bite brownie.

  • Cut your orange candy into a triangle and place in the dip of the kidney shape for the beak.
  • Place a drop of icing on the back of the candy eyes and add on either side of the beak.
  • If you want to add wings, use a bread knife to gently cut chocolate wafers into your desired shape.  Place on top of the icing before it hardens.

  • Twist a paper straw gently into the middle of the brownie.  Trim the straw to your desired size.
  • Download and print out the penguin tags.
  • Trim the tags down using a paper cutter or scissors.  Fold each one in half and then snip off the ends with scissors.
  • Write on the back of the tag if you would like.

  • Attach the tag using a strip of double sided tape {or glue if you don’t have tape}.

You’re The Coolest Valentine’s Day Tags

These little tags work perfectly for the penguin brownie bites but they can really be used for any little Valentine’s Day gift. Add them to a Valentine’s Day pencil or other Valentine’s Day treat.  To use, just click on the link, download to your computer and print them out!

It often feels like the time between Halloween and Valentine’s day is just one big extended chocolate and candy holiday. And, of course, you know that Easter is just around the corner!
