This DIY ghost Halloween candy holder is such a fun way to display all of your Halloween treats!  It’s perfect for a Halloween party or Trick or Treating decor.

DIY Ghost Halloween Candy Holder

I don’t usually do a lot of Halloween decorating, but I do like to dress up our front porch for the Trick or Treaters. Last year was the first year that we weren’t going to be home for Halloween night, so I needed something to hold our Halloween candy.

These cute DIY Ghost candy bowl holders looked so cute and fit in perfectly with the rest of our fall porch decor. They were super easy to make and I actually had all of the supplies on hand.

Ghost Halloween Candy Holder Tutorial

Materials

  • round planter {If you don’t have one with legs you could always raise it up on a box or other riser. You could even use a round basket.}

Instructions

  • Find the middle of the sheet and place it in the middle of the planter. Add the bowl. The front and back will be longer than the sides.

  • Fold the sheet under along the bottom, forming pleats as you move around the planter. You can cut the bottom of the sheet if you would like, but folding it under allows you to not destroy the sheet.

  • Cut ovals out for the eyes. You can do a mouth too if you would like. Use the temporary spray adhesive to attach to the sheet. The eyes can be removed when you’re done with the candy bowl so the sheet can be used again.

  • Fill with Halloween treats and display.

It still looks cute even without the candy too.

These ghost candy bowls could also be used inside for a fun candy bowl too and would be great for Halloween parties! You could even fill it with ice and use it as a drink holder.

Happy Halloween!

Fall Seasonal Simplicity Series

I can’t believe we’re already on to Week 6 of the Fall Seasonal Simplicity Series. Each week my blogging friends and I have been sharing all of our fall decor ideas to help inspire you for the season. This week we’re moving on to Halloween with some fun Halloween projects. You can check out all of the links at the end of the post, and if you’ve missed any of the previous weeks, you can find them here…

Halloween Gnome Decor

I found this gnome cookie jar way back in August at HomeSense. I wasn’t planning on getting any new Halloween decor this year, but he was the only one there and he was calling my name. So I bought him home and stored him away. On the weekend, I found the black gnome mugs {also at Winners} and it inspired me to put together a little Halloween gnome vignette.

I love the hats on the mugs. It keeps the beverage warm and they can also be used as little mini-jars too.

I gathered up a few other Halloween items that I had from previous years, and created this fun Halloween gnome tray. It’s perfect for storing some Halloween goodies and makes an easy hot chocolate station. I added some lights with the black lighted tree and a set of battery operated string lights and it’s all ready for Halloween!

Halloween Gnome Printables

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know how much I like to make seasonal printables. So, of course, I had to make some fun Halloween gnome printables to go with the gnome display!

I can never pick one design, so I have five different printables available. I’d love to see what you create with them!

The printables can just be printed and framed, but they’d also be great for making Halloween cards or tags. You can have them printed at a photo shop for the best quality or just send them to your home printer on thicker paper or cardstock. You can also size them down for printing smaller sizes {you’ll just need to adjust your printer settings} if you just want small tags or cards.

Let me know which one you like the best!

If you’d like these Halloween gnome printables to add to your own Halloween decor, just go to the print(s) you’d like and click on the size you want. I have three formatting sizes available for each print – 5×7, 8×10, and 11×14.

Create a spooky Halloween look in your home with these simple Halloween decorating ideas. A fun way to spread that Halloween spirit!

I don’t always do a lot of Halloween decorating, but thought that this year definitely deserved some fun Halloween decor! The kids might not be trick or treating, but there are still lots of other ways to celebrate the season. You just have to make the best of the situation, right?

I did most of the Halloween decorating in our front entry and dining room since I thought it would make the most impact there. We have a couple of Halloween dinners and a pumpkin carving night planned, so I know we’ll use the space for Halloween activities. Plus, they’re the first rooms you see when you come in our house.

This post contains affiliate links. This means that I may make a small commission at no cost to you from items purchased directly through the links. Thanks so much for your support!

Halloween Decorating Ideas

Come on into our dining room and I’ll show you around! Most of our decor items are really inexpensive, so it doesn’t take a lot of money to add that spooky touch! I didn’t actually buy anything new this year, but always have fun switching items around and using them in different ways.

Halloween Sideboard

I always enjoy putting together seasonal vignettes and this sideboard is always one of the first places I like to decorate. Adding bats is definitely one of the easiest way to add some spookiness to your home. They’re really inexpensive and are quick and easy to put up. The packages come with double side foam tape but you can always use painter’s tape if you’re going to be adding them to your walls or other painted surfaces.

These white Christmas LED birch trees make the perfect bat landing and I always love the glow of twinkling lights.

Look through your old Halloween costumes to find pieces and props that you can use in your decor. I had this cute witch headband that I converted to a hat for my skull. Mrs. Bones took the other witches’ hat.

I added some more lights to the bottom garland as well as a candle in the jack-o-lantern bowl and my lighted skull. You can never have too many lights, right?

Candy Bar

The best part of Halloween has got to be the candy! I actually have little candy stashes throughout the dining room and front entry, but thought it deserved its own spot too! Candy is a great way to add some color to your space and you know that it definitely won’t go to waste! Place them out in cute bowls or trays, fill up glass jars, or add them to beakers or test tubes for an extra Halloween touch.

I did a little Hocus Pocus candy bar in the kitchen last year, and decided to set one up in the living room this year. I think the candy lasts a little bit longer in here since we’re not in here as often as the kitchen. The cute little ghosts were from the dollar store. They’d be super easy to DIY but, for a couple of dollars, it was easier to just buy them.

I have some mugs and hot chocolate powder beside the candy bar too in case we need a drink! There may also be some Kahlua hiding in the buffet too.

And, of course, the finishing touch is always twinkle lights!

Halloween Dining Table

Hopefully I’ll have time to share one of our Halloween tablescapes when I set them up, but here’s the bare bones {no pun intended!} table for now.

I shared our easy Halloween centerpiece yesterday so you can find all of the details on that HERE.

I love collecting seasonal salt and pepper shakers and my Halloween ones are some of my favorites.

For now Mrs. Bones is enjoying having the dining room to herself. We’ll be joining her in here soon though!

We used to have lots of Halloween parties when the kids were younger so I still have lots of fun Halloween trays, glasses and other serving items. I can display my favorites in the hutch and store any extras down below.

Use Free Printables

Printables are one of the quickest, easiest, and least expensive ways to add some Halloween spirit to your home. I hung this Witching Essentials printable beside our buffet and hutch.

And used our Witches’ Soiree printable for our candy bar this year. You can find all of my free Halloween printables HERE so check them out!

I hope these Halloween decorating ideas have inspired you to add some Halloween spirit to your own home. Even a few fun touches can make a difference!

Create a spooky Halloween centerpiece for a Halloween tablescape or other Halloween decor! Quick and easy to make with just a few supplies.

I decided to do a little more Halloween decorating than usual this year. Since we’re not doing all of the regular Halloween activities, I thought it would be fun to create a few new ones! I focused most of the Halloween decorations in our foyer and dining room. These are the rooms that you see first when you come in our home and I have a couple of spooky Halloween meals planned for our dining room.

I’ll show you the rest of the dining room tomorrow, but today I wanted to share this quick and easy Halloween centerpiece idea. You can totally customize it with items that you already have, so shop around your home and see what you can find. If you don’t have a hurricane vase you can always use a large bowl or smaller glass vase.

I’ve had this hurricane vase for many years and have used it in so many different ways. I think basic pieces like this that can easily be switched up for various seasons and holidays are totally worth the investment.

This post contains affiliate links. This means that I may make a small commission off items purchased directly through the links provided. Thanks so much for your support!

DIY Halloween Centerpiece

This Halloween centerpiece goes together in less than 10 minutes with just a few Halloween items. Customize it with your favorite Halloween decor items or keep it simple with just the lights, feathers, and skulls.

Materials

  • hurricane lantern {similar ones HERE or HERE but I couldn’t find anything quite as big}
  • black feather boa
  • fairy lights with timer
  • mini skulls. I found my styrofoam ones at HomeSense but there are similar ones HERE and HERE.
  • other Halloween embellishments. I used a small lighted Halloween tree but you could you some branches spray painted black, crows, bats, or anything else you like.
  • spider webs

Directions

  • Place the fairy light base in the bottom of the hurricane lamp. Be sure to set the timer for the right time so you don’t have to disturb your arrangement to turn it on.
  • Line the bottom of the vase with the black boa making sure to cover the light battery pack. {NOTE: You won’t need the full boa so just cut wherever you would like to give your desired fullness}
  • If you’re going to be adding extra embellishments to the center of the vase, add those next. I used this small lighted tree and added a little glitter crow on top. You could use spray painted black branches, a larger skull in the middle, crows, bats, a little pumpkin – whatever you’d like. If you have a smaller vase, you might just want to skip this part.
  • Place the skulls around the bottom of the vase.
  • Add some spider webs in and around the vase. Wrap the bottom of the vase with the rest of the feather boa.

It looks so spooky when the lights come on and I love the glow!

If you want to dress it up even more, place it on a tray or cutting board and add a few more Halloween items. I used a couple of black Halloween tress on either side along with more spider webs, some faux chains, and a few creepy, crawly creatures.

I hope this gave you a little inspiration for your own Halloween decor!

Halloween Printables

One of my favorite thing about using printables for seasonal decor is how quick and easy they are. All you really need to do is print them out and pop them in a frame. And if you like to put your own creative twist on things, there are also lots of different ways that you can make them your own. Create a fun vignette, use them for cards or gift tags, make a fun sign or DIY frame with them – the sky’s the limit! I’ve linked some ideas of how I’ve used some of the printables in the past at the end of the post, so you can check those out for some inspiration.

I love creating seasonal printables for you guys and have made quite a few Halloween ones over the years. I thought that I’d put them all in one place for you so they’re easier to find and you can see everything that’s available. HOW TO DECORATE WITH PRINTABLES

I absolutely love decorating with printables.  They’re quick, easy, and instantly add some visual interest to your seasonal decor. Printables are also a really inexpensive and don’t really take up any space if you’re storing them between seasons.  {TIP: If you use the printables in a frame, just store them in there and rotate the prints each season. They stay damage-free, no extra storage is required, and you’ll know exactly where they are each season!}

Once you’ve found your perfect printable, just download it to your computer and print it out.  You can either print it on a personal printer at home, or send it out to any digital photo processing lab {Costco, Walgreens, etc.}. Just be careful to watch the sizing when you print them and be careful to check for any cropping if you’re sending them out to be printed.  If you choose to print out a printable designated as an 8×10, for example, and you want a 5×7, some of the edges will be cropped.

Printables can be used for so much more than just putting them in a frame.  Here are a few of my favorite ways to use them…

Happy Halloween decorating! I hope these free Halloween printables can add some fun into your holiday celebrations!

October is here and Halloween is fast approaching.  My kids are already getting excited for the big night and actually picked out their costumes a couple of weeks ago.  I’ve never enjoyed putting together Halloween costumes so I was thrilled that they wanted something store bought. Yay for me!

While making costumes might not be my thing, I really do love all of the fun activities and projects that come with Halloween.  I hope you enjoy these cute Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treat pops as much as we did!

Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treats

If you’re looking for a fun Halloween treat to create with your kids, you’ll love these Frankenstein Rice Krispie treats! They’re fairly quick and easy to whip up and the kids loved them. You can leave them as squares or add a paper straw to turn them into Rice Krispie pops. They’d be perfect for a Halloween party or just a fun Halloween treat or movie night.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp. butter
  • 5 cups mini marshmallows
  • 7 cups Rice Krispies
  • green food coloring
  • candy eyes
  • green mini-marshmallows for the ears
  • melting chocolate {I used about half a bag}
  • paper straws {optional}

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted. I know it's tempting to turn the heat up but I find that this works best if done slowly over lower heat! Add the green food coloring until you have the desired color.
  • Once melted, remove from the heat and gradually add the Rice Krispies. Stir until the Rice Krispies are completely coated. Using a buttered spatula {or butter your hands}, press evenly into a well greased 9x13 pan. Cool and cut into rectangles. {Mine were approximately 3 x 4 inches}.
  • Before they are completely cooled, press in the candy eyes and add the straws into the bottom of each rectangle. Snip the ends of the straw if you would like. Cut a toothpick in half and add a marshmallow to each half for the ears. Insert into the Rice Krispie square. Wait for the Rice Krispies to completely cool.
  • Melt chocolate in the microwave as per the directions on the package. For most melting chocolate, melt at medium-high heat for 1 minute, stir, and then continue heating in 10-30 second intervals until completely melted. Do not overheat!!! Using a knife add the hair and place down on wax paper. Pipe on the chocolate for the mouth {I just used a decorating squeeze bottle} and you are done!

Free Printable Halloween Labels

These Frankenstein Rice Krispie treats can also make a cute gift idea – just put them in some clear cellophane bags and add one of my free printable tags. I have two versions available for you – a round tag that you can just punch and tie it on with some baker’s twine…

…or a banner tag that you can just wrap around the stick and attach with double sided tape.  Just notch out the end for an extra decorative touch!

I hope you get a chance to give these a try! They’re lots of fun to make and even better to eat!

Portable Beverage Bar

I purchased this milk bottle crate from Decor Steals and have had lots of fun changing them up for the different seasons. I used it for fall, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Christmas, and now I’m doing a Halloween version!

If you don’t have a crate similar to this, you can always just use mason jars, cute Weck jars, or any other containers that you may already have. Just place them in a tray or crate and you suddenly have your own portable beverage bar!

Halloween Beverage Bar

This Halloween beverage bar is fun for Halloween parties, post Trick or Treating, or just that special treat! For the Boo Bar sign, I spray painted a thin wooden plaque {you can find these at Michaels} with some chalkboard spray paint and tied it to the wire basket with some baker’s twine. I filled the jars with ghost peeps and marshmallows, hot chocolate powder, and candy corn and Caramilk bars.  All the fixings for the perfect Halloween hot chocolate!

Free Printable Halloween Hot Chocolate Bar Labels

I created some quick printable Halloween hot chocolate bar labels with more appropriate Halloween names {the kids always like helping with this!}. Once you’ve printed them, punch them out using a circle punch or trace a circle around them and cut out. I added some black ink to the edges and ran it lightly over the top to give it a spookier look. I then glued these onto some colored cardstock for more visual interest and tied them on with some baker’s twine.

DOWNLOAD THE PRINTABLE HALLOWEEN HOT CHOCOLATE LABELS HERE.

For the hot chocolate, I prepared the hot chocolate mix as usual and then popped a couple of Caramilk pieces in it.  If the chocolate doesn’t melt completely, just pop it in the microwave for 5-10 seconds and stir.  It just adds a bit of richer chocolate flavor and that hint of caramel.

Now just top as you would like.  Add some ghost droppings or a cute Peeps ghost, or some whipped cream with candy corn garnish. YUM! For more ideas on how to put together a hot chocolate bar, check out this post.

  • Combine the dough from both packages into a ball. On a lightly floured surface, press it out into a circle {approximately 11.5 inch diameter}. Ensure the thickness is uniform.
  • Bake on a pizza stone or flat baking sheet for approximately 10 minutes until golden brown. If the pastry is puffing up too much, you can poke it with a fork a few times mid-baking. Allow to cool. {NOTE: If the edges are uneven, you can form into a nice circle by placing a plate over top and trimming off the excess dough with a knife.}
  • In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese, sour cream and ranch seasoning until well combined and smooth. Spread evenly over the cooled crust.
  • Add a circle of cauliflower in the middle of the pizza. {NOTE: To get an even placement, lightly press a large glass turned upside down {or other circular object that is about 4 inch in diameter} into the cream cheese spread in the center of the pizza crust}.
  • Add a ring of the chopped carrots around the cauliflower and follow with a ring of the yellow peppers around the outside. Cut into slices with a pizza cutter. {Anywhere from 8 to 16 slices works well depending on how big you would like the pieces.}
  • While you can serve this immediately, I prefer it chilled. Cover with Saran wrap and refrigerate for 1-2 hours prior to serving.

Crescent Roll Veggie Pizza Tips

  • Warm the cream cheese in the microwave for 15-20 seconds to soften it up before mixing it with the sour cream. I find it easiest to use a spoon to spread it on the pizza dough and then smooth it out with a knife.
  • If you like to prep ahead of time, bake the dough, mix the cream cheese and chop the veggies the day before your party. You will then just need to quickly assemble and chill on the day of.
  • If you’re not a big fan of ranch seasoning, there are lots of different flavor combinations you can try. Dill, thyme, basil, parsley, rosemary, garlic – whatever you like! You could also try switching up the cream cheese flavor.
  • I don’t like the crust to be too thick so I prick it with a fork about half way through baking time so it doesn’t rise as much.
  • You can use shredded carrots instead of the chopped carrots. I just prefer the extra crunch! you could also add some shredded mozzarella cheese in with the cauliflower or some shredded cheddar cheese in with the carrots.

Let me know if you give these a try! I hope you enjoy!

Halloween Decor

I don’t usually do a ton of decorating for Halloween. It’s not really one of my favorite holidays, but the boys love it and it’s always fun to see them so excited. So… I’m embracing the season and taking on some Halloween decorating this year.

Since we have our Canadian Thanksgiving the second weekend in October, I usually wait until Thanksgiving is over before bringing out the Halloween decorations. I still wanted to keep a lot of our fall decor up though so I focused the Halloween decorating in our dining room {since we always do a fun Halloween dinner} and piano room.  Once the fall decorations were down, I had a couple of empty frames to fill, so I created a couple of quick chalkboard Halloween printables.  You can never go wrong with chalkboard, right?

I made two different printables to share with you.  Hang these up in a picture frame on the wall or use them in a little Halloween vignette.  Easy peasy Halloween decor!

The prints can also be used as Halloween cards or Halloween party invitations. Just decrease the size down to whatever size you would like and glue them onto the front of a blank card. A thicker cardstock for printing works best for this. {NOTE: These printables are formatted to an 8×10. If you would like to use a different formatting size, be sure that you fit the image to frame so nothing important is cropped off.}

Free Halloween Printables Blog Hop

Today I’m joining Kristen from Ella Claire for a fun Halloween printable hop! I generally wait until after our Canadian Thanksgiving before I start decorating for Halloween, but I didn’t want to miss out on this one. There are always so many cute {er…spooky!} Halloween printables shared, so check them all out at the end of the post.

Witching Essentials Free Halloween Printables

Personally, I don’t like anything too gory when it comes to Halloween docor. I’m more on the cute/fun/spooky team and think this Witching Essentials printable is a good mix of all three.

Even though regular trick or treating likely won’t be happening this year, we’re still planning on doing some fun Halloween celebrations of our own. We’ve always done a family Halloween dinner and movie night {you can see a couple really old ones here and here} so I’m hoping to make it a little extra special this year. I’ll be using this witching printable in our dining room as soon as I bring out the rest of the Halloween decorations.

To dress up the frame just a bit, I added a little flying bat with some double sided foam tape. I actually bought a big pack of them from Amazon and plan on using them for the rest of our Halloween decor. They’re another super quick, easy, and inexpensive way to add some Halloween fun to your home.

How to Print Out Printables.

Whenever I post a new printable, I usually get at least a couple of emails about how to print them. I thought I would answer some of the most common questions here to help you out.  If you have any other ones, just let me know!

How do I download the printables?

To download the printable of your choice, just click on the link and then download the print to your computer. I have all of my printables in Google Drive so if you’re having troubles, try using Google Chrome for your browser.  It seems to do the trick!  If you’re not printing it right away, be sure to save it somewhere that you can find it again.  Having a specific folder specifically for printables works great to keep things organized and you can always find it in subsequent years if you want to print it again.

What’s the best way to print the printables?

Once you’ve downloaded the printable to your computer, you can choose to either print it at home or send it out to a local or online print shop {Stapes, Costco, London Drugs, Walgreens, etc.}. If you choose to print at home, you can use either a laser or an ink jet printer. The ink jet printers do seem to run through the ink faster than laser printers, so if you’ll be printing a lot, a laser printer may be your best option.  If you’re going to be printing something larger than an 8.5×11 {or just don’t want to use up your ink!} you will need to send it out to a printer.  I like to mark to NOT adjust the colors. I’ve had some funky colors come back when I don’t do this! Make sure you’ve chosen the correct size for formatting so nothing gets cut off! {see below}

Why isn’t the printable printing at the right size?

I often have multiple formatting sizes available for each print {i.e. 4×6, 5×7, etc.}. This just indicates that the ratio of the height and width of the print is compatible with that printing size so nothing will be cut off when you go to print it.  Most home printers, however, will still print it out to fit a standard 8.5×11 piece of paper unless you change the settings on your printer. All printers are a bit different on this so I can’t speak to individual printers, but on our printer, we can change the photo size that we want printed. I just make sure to do this before printing if I’m wanting something other than a 8.5×11.  If you’re trying to print something smaller that just comes in a 8×10 or 8.5×11 size, you can still print it out smaller. You may just need to click on the “fit to page” setting so nothing gets cropped off.

Download Witching Essentials Halloween Printable

If you’d like to download your own Witching Essentials printable, just click on the link below, download it to your computer and print! I have two color versions available for the title – one in black and one in orange. I haven’t decided if I’m going to decorate in black and white or add in some orange, so I made both! They both come in a 5×7, 8×10, and 11×14 formatting size. PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE PRINTABLES ARE FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY.
